I got an exceptional opportunity to participate in a fascinating project established by the international committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). An international competition related to the laws of armed conflict, better known as International humanitarian law (IHL). For three intensive day various groups from different academic institutions simulated situations in which international law in general, and IHL in particular apply. The project, named after Jean Pictet – a prominent contributor in the formulation of the four Geneva conventions, gives an interesting legal perspective on the pressing and controversial questions that arise during armed conflicts, and provides students with a solid introduction about the proper (legal) conduct of war.
